The end of winter term means we are welcoming a new alumni class! Although we will miss the large class of 2024, we wish them luck in their future endeavors. Our newest alumni class consists of Gavin Smith (President), Lauren Ely (Recruitment & Former Vice President), Spencer Santana (Vice President), Payton Harrison (Education), Ashwin Nelson (Large-Cap), Peter Layzell (Global), Tanner Munson (DADCO), Sarah Gruber (Treasurer), Ashley Robinson (Healthcare), Sam Dugan (IMEU), Liam Gilhuly (Financials), Tristin Vanderlind, and Tyler Davis!

Awarded First Place in CFA Pitch Competition

Feb. 2024

On February 23rd, four of our OSIG members headed to Portland to participate in the CFA Institute Research Challenge. Members, Ashwin Nelson, Peter Layzell, Tanner Munson, and Parker Meredith, were able to represent our group as they pitched a buy on Columbia Banking System (Ticker: COLB). After competing against teams from George Fox University, Pacific University, Portland State University, University of Oregon, University of Portland, Washington State University - Vancouver and Willamette University, we took home first place! The team is excited to be moving on to the next round, semi-regionals!​

15th Annual New York Trip

OSIG was fortunate to be back in New York and experience some incredible company visits. Members were able to hear about financial careers over a wide variety of specialties, including asset management, corporate finance, investment banking, and more.
This trip wouldn't have been possible without our generous donors and hosts, including Christopher Glynn, Tyler Wood, Lukas Scheiffarth, Nolan Eggert, James Wu, Michael Eschmann, and Lauren Rutkowski. It was a true learn-by-doing experience. We can't wait for next year!

University of Oregon Pitch Competition

April 2023

This year, OSIG was happy to host our annual pitch competition against the University of Oregon Investment Group, UOIG. UOIG pitched Okta while OSIG pitched Workday. The OSIG members that presented our pitch was our Large-Cap Portfolio Manager, Ashwin Nelson, and Treasurer, Sarah Gruber. We had the opportunity to network prior to the meeting as well as share our portfolios with each other. We look forward to continuing this tradition  in Eugene next spring!

CFA Pitch Competition

Feb. 2023

This term, a few of our OSIG members headed up to Portland to participate in the CFA Institute Research Challenge. The CFA challenge is a global competition that tests the equity research and valuation, investment report writing, and presentation skills of university students. Members, Gavin Smith, Ryan Hogan, Sarina Grant, and Jared Thompson, were able to represent our group as they pitched a phenomenal analysis on Columbia Sportswear. Our members had a wonderful time in Portland and we are hoping to continue our participation in this challenge for future years. ​

14th Annual New York Trip

Dec. 2022

OSIG was fortunate to continue the tradition of the New York trip this December, taking 11 members from the group to the East coast to explore career options and hear from industry professionals. One of the highlights of the trip was our alumni social, allowing us to network with both OSU and OSIG alumni. Special thanks to our hosts, Bryan Wynn, Alyson Shupe, Gerald Gale, and Nolan Eggert. We had a great time and cannot wait to return!

"After many months of time and effort, OSIG members, Derek Dang and Ryan Hogan, generously created a website for the group, displaying our current holdings. Through their website, one can quickly see how we are allocating our stock amongst sectors, analyze weekly changes, and review our current position. Thanks to their efforts, we are hoping to utilize this website for years to come!" 

University of Oregon Pitch Competition

April 2022

Each year the University of Oregon Investment Group and Oregon State Investment Group come together for a friendly pitch competition. As the competition was unable to be held in recent years due to the pandemic, both groups were very excited for this face off! ​Upon arriving in Eugene, the two groups were offered a networking
opportunity prior to delivering pitches. UOIG pitched Albertsons while OSIG pitched Microsoft. The OSIG members that presented our pitch was our president, Sarina Grant, and Large-Cap Portfolio Manager, Ryan Hogan. Huge thanks to UOIG for hosting this event! We look forward to seeing everyone next year in Corvallis!​

13th Annual New York Trip

After wrapping up our 13th annual New York Trip, we just want to say thank you! We learned so much from this experience and can't wait to apply this knowledge going forward. Attending in-person is an invaluable experience and we are so appreciative. This trip wouldn't be possible without the generosity of donors and help from our New York connections. A special shout out to Bryan Wynn, CFA, Benjamin Lown, Christopher Glynn, Lee Sophocleous, and Jason Makishi for being such wonderful hosts!

12th Annual New York Trip

Thank you to all of the firms and alumni that hosted us this year for our annual New York trip! We had a great time meeting with Alkeon Capital, Ernst & Young, Google, U.S. Bank, and Credit Suisse. This trip has always been an exciting experience for our members and opens the door for many opportunities. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the year has in store!
